back into the woods…this time to have a picnic and hike a few trails
if you had told me just a year ago that we would be a family that spends sundays in the woods, i would have laughed. although i have always been fascinated by nature and love getting dirt under my nails in the garden, past choices have been to stay in the shallow depths of the natural world and not spend my time too far from modern conveniences.
leaving our beloved beaches behind and moving to north mississippi has given david and i the perfect opportunity to introduce the forest to the girls as well as ourselves. each of us has a different level of comfort while hiking but luckily we have access to miles of trails nearby to grow and discover our individual relationship with the land.
“i grew up in this town, my poetry was born between the hill and the river, it took its voice from the rain, and like the timber, it steeped itself in the forests.” ~pablo neruda
